EXPERT DELEGATION FROM THE NETHERLANDS CLIMATE FUND AND DEVELOPMENT (DFCD) AND WWF VIETNAM INSPECT AND EVALUATE POTENTIAL TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT PACKAGES FOR SAM SAM GROUP’S “SUSTAINABLE NGOC LINH GINSENG DEVELOPMENT UNDER FOREST CANOPY” PROJECT TO IMPLEMENT THE PROJECT’S THIRD PHASE
At Sam Sam Group’s project, the expert delegation conducted on-site inspections of the ginseng cultivation area in Village 2, Tra Linh Commune, Nam Tra My District, and the processing plant for producing high-end extracts from Ngoc Linh ginseng and other medicinal herbs located in Tam Thang Industrial Park, Tam Ky City.

Sam Sam Group is implementing the “Sustainable Ngoc Linh Ginseng Development Under Forest Canopy” project, which is being validated and financially supported by WWF-Vietnam, the Netherlands Climate and Development Fund, and the Dutch Development Bank FMO. “Sustainable Ngoc Linh Ginseng Development Under Forest Canopy” is one of 20 global projects and one of 8 projects in the Asian region selected for validation and financial support due to meeting the objectives of preserving the original genetic resources of Ngoc Linh ginseng; it is assessed as a nature-friendly agricultural economic model with sustainable development, with no negative impact on the ecosystem in the Truong Son Mountain Range. The project is also highly evaluated for its scalability, addressing labor issues, improving livelihoods for mountain ethnic minority communities based on the principles of consensus, prior notification, and full information to the project implementation area community; with clear product traceability and geographical indication…

Sam Sam Group is currently making efforts to expand its cultivation area according to GACP-WHO standards (Good Agricultural and Collection Practices as recommended by the World Health Organization).
Sam Sam Group has invested in building an extraction plant for products derived from Ngoc Linh ginseng and other medicinal herbs on an area of 2.5 hectares, with a total investment of 120 billion dong in the first phase.
Sam Sam Group is one of the pioneering units in researching and successfully applying asexual propagation methods, with a current production capacity of 1 million seedlings per year. The goal is to reach a production capacity of 5 million seedlings per year by 2030, meeting the supply needs for the national ginseng industry development strategy.

Mr. Huib-Jan de Ruijter, a senior expert from the Dutch Development Bank FMO, assessed this as a highly distinctive and unique project compared to global investments, due to the exceptional nature of a rare medicinal plant with high scientific and economic market value… while still fully meeting the criteria of a sustainable, nature-friendly production model. The project is also highly effective through sustainable development of Ngoc Linh ginseng under forest canopy; well-managed from seed selection, cultivation, disease prevention, harvesting, propagation, and production of Ngoc Linh ginseng products; not only creating economic benefits for the enterprise but also for the local community in the project area, and particularly protecting sustainable forest ecosystems, contributing to limiting the impacts of climate change.
