On October 3rd, a delegation from the Ministry of Health, led by Mr. Đỗ Xuân Tuyên, Deputy Minister of Health, had a working session with the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee and conducted on-site surveys related to the conservation and development of medicinal herbs and Ngoc Linh ginseng.
In the report during the working session, Mr. Trần Út, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Quang Nam province, stated that Quang Nam has planned a conservation and development zone for Ngoc Linh ginseng covering an area of 15,567 hectares. Additionally, they are researching the transplantation of Ngoc Linh ginseng in other localities with similar conditions to expand and develop the cultivation area. Quang Nam is also placing significant emphasis on research, application, and technology transfer to support Ngoc Linh ginseng production.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Hồ Quang Bửu, stated that on October 15th, Quang Nam province is expected to have an outline for the Project on Establishing the Quang Nam Medicinal Herb Industrial Center. The project will focus on creating mechanisms to provide momentum for businesses and local people.
According to Mr. Hồ Quang Bửu, Quang Nam offers numerous preferential policies to attract businesses to invest in medicinal herb industry development, especially for Ngoc Linh ginseng. Additionally, the province’s logistics infrastructure and seaports provide favorable conditions for business development.
Mr. Đỗ Xuân Tuyên, Deputy Minister of Health, noted that the plan to establish the Quang Nam Medicinal Herb Industrial Center has been approved by the Prime Minister. However, the project development progress has been quite slow, and he requested Quang Nam to accelerate the project outline development.

Subsequently, the delegation conducted an on-site survey of the medicinal herb export industrial zone at the Medicinal Herb Processing Plant of Sam Sam Company (Tam Thang Industrial Park, Tam Ky City, Quang Nam).
Reporting to the delegation, a representative of Sam Sam Company stated that they are pioneers in researching, developing, and conserving Ngoc Linh ginseng through asexual propagation methods, with a current production capacity of 1 million seedlings per year, and a goal to reach 5 million seedlings per year by 2030. Additionally, the company has successfully researched and extracted more than 10 types of medicinal products derived from Ngoc Linh ginseng.

The Deputy Minister of Health commented that the company’s achievement of multiple medicinal products derived from Ngoc Linh ginseng is very encouraging. However, he also suggested that the company should continue researching more products to fully explore the potential benefits of Ngoc Linh ginseng. The company’s proposals and challenges will be valuable input for the Ministry of Health to consider and study.
The delegation from the Ministry of Health will continue to survey the areas planned for investment and support in developing precious medicinal herb cultivation zones (part of the Seedling Center Project in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province).
