Ngoc Linh ginseng is a type of ginseng endemic to Vietnam that can only be found on Ngoc Linh mountain in the two provinces of Quang Nam (Nam Tra My district) and Kon Tum (Dak To district and Tu Mo Rong district). The reason why this precious ginseng is named after this mountain is because this is where the ginseng was found and is also the only place that owns this type of ginseng. If other places can grow it, the quality cannot be as good as the ginseng growing in its native homeland.
What is Ngoc Linh mountain?
Ngoc Linh Mountain is known as the roof of Central Vietnam, with an altitude of 2,578m above sea level, red-yellow soil on 50cm thick granite, high humus content, loose, and vast primeval forest.
Ngoc Linh ginseng appears from an altitude of 1,200 m and above, but is widely distributed from an altitude of 1,800 m. Ngoc Linh ginseng grows on a thick layer of humus, not underground, and is covered by a thick canopy of primary forests, with a coverage of at least 70%. The climate here is cool all year round, with an average temperature of 18-25 degrees Celsius, covered by clouds, heavy rain, and humidity of over 80%. It is these unique climatic characteristics that make precious Ngoc Linh ginseng grow only here and not suitable for other places.
